Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto invites residents to the Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center Grand Opening, scheduled for Saturday, October 30th, at 10:30 a.m., with a special ceremony scheduled for 11:30 a.m. The complex is located at 167 Broadway (Route 107) in Hicksville. "The highly anticipated Hicksville Athletic Center is now open to the youth and residents of the Town of Oyster Bay," Supervisor Venditto said. "Registration is now open for a variety of programs available at the facility, run by the Nassau County Police Activity League in coordination with the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department." A grand opening celebration will take place on October 30th, featuring free refreshments and giveaways. In addition, there will be basketball shooting contests, face painting, music, trivia, games, a unicyclist performance and more. Youngsters can also receive baseball tips and autographs by former New York Yankee Rusty Torres. Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to see the activities of the new PAL Youth Center, an after-school program for boys and girls in grades three through 12, such as ping pong, air hockey and more. "We invite youngsters to wear their Halloween costume," Supervisor Venditto said. "Also, those interested in taking part in some of the great programs offered at the athletic center will have the opportunity to sign up for fall/winter sessions. Registration will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m." The Supervisor noted that among the programs available are the Youth Center, Dance, Mommy/Grandma and Me, Tae Kwon Do, Tennis, Tumbling and Golf. Residents are reminded to bring their tax or utility bill as proof of residency when registering, as Town resident fees are discounted. The facility also houses the Morgan Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing preschool-aged children who are undergoing treatment for cancer the opportunity to interact and socialize, in a safe environment that stimulates cognitive and social development. "We are proud to have the Morgan Center located within our facility," Supervisor Venditto said. "This wonderful organization gives children living with this disease an opportunity they would otherwise not have, to be with their peers and enjoy the benefits of a classroom setting."
