The NCPAL hosted the Nassau County Boys Basketball Coaches Association Annual 2 Top 40 games. The games were played at the TOB Center in Hicksville on Sunday, Oct. 16th. The players were selected by the Coaches after attending the Top 100 camp held at the Island Garden. 40 players were selected after 2 days of tryouts. The 40 players were divided up into 4 teams that played against each other. The purpose of these games was to select players to play against the Suffolk County All Stars. The Nassau-Suffolk game may also be hosted by the NCPAL at the TOB Center. The date has yet to be determined. Here is a summary of both games. Game 1, 2:00 pm. White. 68. Blue 67 The White team, coached by Jason Williams of High School took a 38-32 halftime lead. Alyijah Hill of Hewlett & Xavier Merriweather of Port Washington each scored 9 points to pace White. The Blue team, coached by Jay Allen of Sewanhaka High School, was led by Jack Stafford of Plainview, who hit 3 3's in the half & Rajah Mayo, Jr. who also added 9 points. The pace picked up in the 2nd half with both teams going back & forth. With 10 seconds to go Blue tied the game up on a 3 by Locust Valley's Dan Wilson. It looked like overtime! But White's Xavier Merriweather of Port Washington was fouled on a 3 point shot with 1 second left. He missed the 3 but was awarded 3 shots. He hit the 1st to seal the win for White. The Blue Team: Zion Styles 12 points; Ralph Mayo, Jr. 10 points, 3 steals & 2 assists; Tim Santana 6 points, 2 steals & 3 assists; Jack Stafford 14 points & 5 rebounds; Dan Wilson 9 points; Kevin Voigt 5 points & Jalen Rosemond 8 points & 8 rebounds. The White: Kobe Howlett 5 points; Xavier Merriweather. 18 points, 4 rebounds & 2 steals; Parker Abel 2 points; Tom Ammendola 5 points; Jaisym Smith 16 points, 10 rebounds & 2 blocks; Alyjiah Hill 14 points & 2 blocks; Matt Gonzalez 8 points & 4 rebounds. Game 2 3:30 White 58 Blue 48 The White Team was coached by Sean Boyle of Floral Park, the Blue by Sean Dooley of Port Washington. It was a 4 point game at half, with the White Team up. White's scoring was balanced as everyone contributed evenly. The Blue Team was led by Osborne Trail III of VSS with 8 & Connor McPartland of Hicksville with 7. White would outscore Blue in the 2nd half, 27 to 19. Brian Fox of Floral Park had 7 & Khalid Ketchan of Westbury added 6 points. The Blue Team Connor McPartland 11 points 1 steal & 1 assist; Jacori Clemons had 2 blocks & 2 steals; Frank Phelan 3 points 1 steal & 3 rebounds; Noah Shy 7 points & 5 rebounds; Jonathan Dia choke 2 points; Norman Wilson 3 points 1 rebound & 2 assists; Victor Olawoye 3 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block 1 steal; Patrick Gardner 6 points, 2 blocks, 3 rebounds & 1 steal; David Moore 4 points & 4 rebounds; Osborne Trail III 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal 1 assist. The proceeds from the games were donated by the Coaches Association to the NCPAL. The NCPAL will donate the proceeds to the Morgan Center for children returning back from cancer treatments. The NCPAL & the Coaches Association want to congratulate all the young men who were selected to play in the games.
